CRI welcomes law students, college students, and high school students interested in learning more about capital defense. Depending on each intern's experience and interest, intern duties include:
  Conducting legal research, drafting legal claims, and assisting in planning culpability and mitigation investigation for state and federal habeas corpus petitions
Working with clinical psychologists, neuropsychologists and psychiatrists to identify and document the effects of trauma, mental illness and neurologic impairment on behavior
Investigating the social history of capitally charged clients; duties include interviewing client and witnesses, preparing witnesses for trial, creating social history reports and memos for defense team lawyers and mental health experts, drafting the factual bases for pre-trial motions, analyzing federal and military case law and case histories, reviewing current and classic psychiatric and neuropsychological literature, requesting, obtaining and analyzing social history and medical records, conducting online and library medical and legal research
